MonoRail Solo Hitch Rack

I forget what I paid for this rack but I definitely went with it for the good reviews and the good price compared to its competitors. I've had it for a year now and it has held my bike (2018 rocky mountain altitude) mostly fine. I have it installed on a toyota camry. On the highway it sways and bounces a bit (I dont know how normal that might be for all hitch racks, but this does sit up pretty high), a couple times the bike has tilted slightly and the front tire wasnt centered in the cradle anymore when i stopped and checked. I try to strap and ratchet the bike down TIGHT but I think a multi hour drive at 70mph is just a lot.

The ratcheting hook is noticeably looser than when I first bought it at this point, it still seems to work well once ratcheted down tight but when it's free it has a lot of play, like it's not on the notched post as snug anymore. This may be a total non-issue, but it is something I've noticed. I am about to drive 10 hours to move and I do not 100% trust my bike on the rack for that much highway driving.

I also wish you orient this with the front tire ratchet/cradle on the left side, rather than just the right. Just my tendency to hold the bike that way,

Otherwise a great rack, way easier than stuffing the bike into my car, and I trust it more than a strap on trunk rack.

Overall I'm satisfied but with some critiques.

Easy simple and reliable rack. Actually the best rack I’ve ever had. And I’ve had plenty that cost a lot more. I was so happy with my bike rack I also purchased a ski rack and the same can be said about that. So thank you for making two great products that I’m sure I’ll be using for years to come.

Bought the solo for my Tacoma based on price, reviews, sixty pound capacity and it being a solo rack I can extend for two when needed. Rock solid mount, no problems traveling with a fifty pound bike. Two issues, first the locks are sadly inadequate and were immediately replaced by a pair from the local tire store. Second the three inch riser hitch bar that comes with the solo rack places the carrier too high on the pickup. The Tacoma's tailgate will not lay flat when the carrier is in the tilt position. The straight two inch bar might do the trick but I'm hesitant to drop the cash to test this theory, but imagine being able to drop the tailgate with bikes in the carrier! So it would be nice if the the solo were offered in modular form allowing a choice between the straight or some type of tailgate friendly bar, and the riser hitch bar. An option for upgraded side mount swivel locks would be a nice touch too.

I just love this rack. After years and years of using a hang by the top tube hitch rack, (from a different, well-known manufacturer), wanted to get a platform rack. Was fairly happy with the top tube rack, and it worked very well with my carbon road bikes. But, not so well with my mountain bikes and their sloping top tubes. Already have a Rocky Mounts Brassnuckles car top rack and am impressed with its construction quality.

Enter the MonoRail Solo. Love that it fits all my bikes, from a Bike Friday folding bike with 20" wheels to my Framed Wolftrax carbon fat bike...and everything in between. Very well made. Easy to assemble. Sits low enough to not block your rear license plate, (2018 Toyota RAV4).

Will probably purchase the second bike attachment sometime in the future. Great company that stands behind their products. Specified matching locks to the Brassnuckles, but was sent a different key code. A single phone call and I had new, replacement, matching code lock cores at my front door two days later. How's that for service!

Now the downside . . . the rack sits low enough on the car that every time I put the car in reverse, the sensors in the bumper think there is a hazard behind me and sounds the warning buzzer. A little bit annoying, and no way to turn the hazard buzzer off. Oh well. I'm still keeping this Rocky Mounts MonoRail Solo. That's how much I like it!

p.s. The cross-track hazard buzzer is not a Rocky Mounts problem . . . it's a Toyota problem

I wanted a really simple bike rack and this fits my needs well. I just need to carry one bike (my bike is carbon and Cannondale tells you not to clamp the frame) and this is light, easy to operate and holds the bike very firmly. I looked at the Thule T1 and Yakima Single Speed. The Yakima does not fold, so that was out. The Thule looks good, but it sticks out farther and I wanted something compact. When I found out you could also add another bike to this down the road, i ordered it. It arrived a couple days later and took me ten minutes to assemble. I have only used it about ten times, but so far so good!!
